Asphalt Resurface

In many cases, asphalt pavement can be resurfaced with another 1.5” of new asphalt (tapering where needed).

The service life will be increased approximately 12 years (or more). A disadvantage of asphalt resurfacing is there is no guarantee from future cracking of the new surface.

Cracking is unpredictable and can happen at any time after the resurfacing is completed. Maintaining the asphalt pavement over its lifespan by patching & sealing every 3 to 5 years helps mitigate the cracking.

Drainage of the existing asphalt paving will need to be evaluated to see if the addition of more asphalt will hamper proper drainage.

Asphalt resurfacing is done when there are budget constraints, but it’s desired to have the existing asphalt look better and be safe. Also, it’s done to increase the curb appeal of a property for sale.
